The Medford Volunteer Fire Department began in 1939. Medford's first fire truck was equipped with a 300-gallon tank, roof ladder, and extension ladder, two hand hooks and a pump with a capacity of 200-gallons-per-minute. The first fire hall was built in 1954. Medford currently has 22 volunteer firefighters, 1 chief, 1 assistant chief, and 4 commanders. They have 3 pumpers, 2 tankers, and 1 personnel carrier. They average 70 calls a year.
